Abstract

In everyday practice, doctors often encounter complex dilemmas where they must balance the maintenance of good relationships with colleagues against the imperative of ensuring patient safety. The entrenched culture of “keeping quiet” or a conspiracy of silence within the medical community gives rise to significant ethical challenges. This paper aims to delve deeper into the interaction between healthcare professionals’ duties and patient interests, specifically examining the implications of the conspiracy of silence and its impact on the quality of healthcare services. The findings reveal that excessive loyalty to colleagues can jeopardize patient safety. This phenomenon obstructs transparency and accountability in medical practice.
Therefore, it is crucial to redefine the concept of professional services to prioritize patient interests, alongside the development of effective mechanisms to address and dismantle the culture of silence.
